Just a Little Math Review {freebies}

A little review is what we need to do.  My kiddos seemed to have a difficult time with tricky wording on their unit tests.  Tricky words?!  Those tricky little words really upset me....but I'm determined to help me kiddos pay close attention.  I made an activity for them to practice fact families BUT they must be careful not to be TRICKED.   You can pick up this activity here .   Another tricky little concept for my sweeties this year....reading thermometers.  We have spent lots of time with number lines and skip counting and we've got it!  What we were having trouble with is interpreting the weather outside  reading a thermometer.  Easy Peasy! - but surprised that they had trouble with this concept.  Soooo we go back and fix this.  If this is something you could use, you can pick it up here .     Happy Tuesday!!

A Little Bit of This and That

This post will truly be a little of this and a little of that so stay with me.  As much as I don't want to share this.........it's a must.  It's too funny and terrible not to share.  So let me give you the sweet and sassy of it. The Sweet: Word Wall Celebrations { click here }are a great way to get the kids moving and using their entire body to memorize these difficult words.  The kids LOVE this time each week. The Sassy: Although, you are witnessing nice handwriting, this child's partner did NOT follow directions.  This poor girl has the word "child" written on her shirt.  UGH!!---The celebration was called  back tracer.  We traced the sight word with OUR FINGERS on a partner's back.  Well, everyone except her sweet partner.  He decided to use a marker. What?!?!  The word we were practicing was actually "children" I noticed what he was doing at about the "child" point.  At least he spelled it correctly. :( Do you guys have

First Week Recap {FREEBIES}

We did it and it was "GREAT"!!  Let me just tell you...first week of school is CAH.RA.ZY.  Now, add a student teacher in the mix.  Her sole purpose for observing this week was to see the craziness of "the first week of school".  Okay, you want crazy......I can show you crazy.  At one point during the week I asked her "Have a gone to the restroom today?"  Poor girl, she looked at me and said "ummmm, no".  BUT I'm sure she went straight home and checked her manual to make sure she wasn't supposed to keep up with my restroom breaks. The kids came in the first day with a Play-doh activity waiting for them.  Second graders LOVE play-doh too.  It was a great way to keep them busy while I gathered supplies and greeted parents.  You can pick it up { here }. We learned the expectations of working with math tools.  We sorted construction paper, they LOVE doing this.  It's a great activity to promote teamwork AND it works out rea

A Teacher FAIL

We LOVE to share our successes and everything that goes right...but what about when it goes wrong.  I'm here today to make ya'll feel better.   Okay, I found the COOLEST little puzzles and made some pretty cute gift tags.   ( yucky picture) If you find puzzles to gift you are welcome to use these tags just pick them up here . Now, this is where it gets good.  These were a great price at my local party store and because they came in bulk packages I had a few extra.  My sweet kiddos wanted to try them.  They were excited about it......yay!!! that means the students will be too. So, they tried them and tried and tried and tried.  We are talking a 9 yr old and 15 yr old...really?! Okay, an hour later my son (15) completed his and my daughter......completely frustrated. I will be taking these cool little puzzles back to our party supply store and sticking with something "yummy". Thank goodness I didn't pass these out....can you
