Day 2 and 3 Kirbys Go West

Well we made it to the Grand Canyon after another looooooonnnng day of driving.

And this was first thing we see when we pull into the park so I’d say it was well worth the drive.

But wait, there’s more…..once we park and walk into the visitor center we find these guys just roaming around.

Park Ranger: Ma’am, I’m going to need you to pick up your dog so that he doesn’t upset the animals.

Me: {thinking…hmmm, I’m not sure that’s really going to be a problem considering the animals are at the visitor’s center hanging out)  Yessir.

Jenna and I weren’t really sure what to expect leading up to seeing the Grand Canyon.

Jenna: So dad, is the Grand Canyon basically a hole in the ground??

Josh:  (silently chuckles) I can’t wait for you to see it.

Seriously, I DO NOT have words to describe the beauty and magnitude of what we saw.        IN. CRED. I. BLE!!   BREATHTAKING!!

….but I had NO IDEA how disoriented I would feel seeing my family getting close to the edge.  Ya’ll, I cannot even handle it.  It literally makes me sick and these two LOVE doing things like this.

Although, it makes me dizzy and nervous I just want to take a picture of everything to share the beauty with the world but pictures just don’t seem to it justice.

We were up early this morning to take a short hike down the canyon.  It was a wonderful trail but again it was hard for me to walk and look at the same time.  The first step I took I slid which made Jenna and Josh think about leaving me back at the campsite where I wouldn't be a danger to myself.

We passed mules on this trail!!!  People ride mules down the canyon.  I wanted to tell all of them to get off because the were scaring me but I didn’t, I kept all my crazy thoughts to myself.   I want to know how many people fall off and die!  There are no rails around this thing it’s just this grand canyon that you can walk up to and look down into.

We’ll be back this evening to experience another beautiful sunset, I'm sure it will be GRAND. ;-)

A New Year...

I cannot believe we are ending 2014 and beginning a new year. I'm anxious, excited, nervous, scared.... Freaking OUT . <-not really. 2015 is going to bring so many new changes whether I am ready for them or not, so I guess I better get ready.   This new year will bring my baby's graduation and life as a college student. Wha?!  His heart  is set on USAFA and we should hear from them in January. He is seriously marking off the days on his calendar.  He has also been offered a paid visit to West Point Academy in New York and will fly out to visit them in March.  I think the key word right now is PATIENCE.  He's put in all the work and now he has to be patient. {I have to be patient} I obviously love pictures more than him. I feel like that will be my mantra for the 2015 year.  {PATIENCE}  I plan to finish my masters this spring. {patience} I have one more class and my ARP to complete.  Oh, and there is this big test that 4th gra...

Speed Dating or 2nd Grade Letter Writing

Well friends, I understand the confusion.  I've never been apart of speed dating but I imagine it just like the letters of these 2nd grade students.  (sorry for the bad pics...that's kinda how I roll) Ya'll these crack me up. I picture these being read without coming up for breath until you get to the last line -which is the same pic ture I get in my head of someone speed dating. Thank you Mrs. Beasley for being our pen pals.  The kids LOVED doing this and guess what?  They want to write ag ai n....this is AUTHENTIC learning!  Okay, we can write some more if that's what ya'll want to do. ;-)  One of the books that I read to the clas s before we started writing our friendly letter was Dear Mr. Blueberry . The kids loved it and I thought it was a perfect way to start our friendly letter unit .  Our first letter was to our lunch ladies politely asking for a new it em on the lunch menu. Next , we were able to set something up wi...

Day 7 Disneyland in a Day

Okay moms, let’s talk about Disney.   I’m going to be real honest with you.   The notebooks you create and the maps you print out, the discounts and packages and clubs and bracelets and t-shirts and rewards make me sweat.   I seriously get overwhelmed and want nothing to do with this place OR maybe I’m just jealous that you’ve figured out the ins and outs of Disney.   I’m simple.   I like simple and we just kept it really simple.   Our plan was to spend ONE day in Disneyland on a tight budget and have the most magical time ever.    We woke up a 4:30 a.m.—we were a little excited and needed about an hour drive time to get through LA traffic. We made it to the gates before they opened and just stood there to take in the excitement of just being at the most magical place earth.   I looked at all the moms with strollers adorned with shoe caddies that held every family member’s drinks for the day.   The basket...
