Snow Many Compound Words!!

Am I blowing your mind???  Two posts within the same month {gasp!}....  This is probably throwing everyone off but I wanted to share the compound word activities that we are doing this week in class.......AND wearing our compound words to school.  FUN!!  We are going to be a walking Highlight Hidden Picture Activity.  Sound silly??  Good, the kids will remember them then.  I might post again later this week with pics but no promises.  I've already broke records with this post tonight.  It was such a busy, fun, and very productive day in my classroom...UNTIL...2:50.  This is when I realized that I hadn't copied my newsletter for this week because our school server went down.  So I quickly got the kids writing about the mission of the Navajo Code Talkers (not a lot info out...just saying) and I was going to briefly sit down and type something out real quick (seriously, the only time my principals visit..I'm thinking there might be a buzzer in my chair :)  Anyway, I was frantically typing because we leave at 3:00 and my sweet principal came in to visit a student of mine, my classroom phone started ringing, and announcements over the intercom came on.  Shhheeessshhh!!.....I just got stressed out all over again.  Oh, and when I sent the papers to the copier...GUESS WHAT??..no paper.  So a teammate helped me and I stuffed newsletters in backpacks as we ran down the hall to catch buses.  No one was left behind and I didn't have any newsletters left over.  SCORE!!!

Okay, compound words and activities....focus.

This unit has a letter to parents for Compound Word Day, fun snack ideas, 3 games to play with compound words, a syllable sort, partner relay, abc order, and writing templates for a creative compound story.

Sweet Dreams Friends!

A New Year...

I cannot believe we are ending 2014 and beginning a new year. I'm anxious, excited, nervous, scared.... Freaking OUT . <-not really. 2015 is going to bring so many new changes whether I am ready for them or not, so I guess I better get ready.   This new year will bring my baby's graduation and life as a college student. Wha?!  His heart  is set on USAFA and we should hear from them in January. He is seriously marking off the days on his calendar.  He has also been offered a paid visit to West Point Academy in New York and will fly out to visit them in March.  I think the key word right now is PATIENCE.  He's put in all the work and now he has to be patient. {I have to be patient} I obviously love pictures more than him. I feel like that will be my mantra for the 2015 year.  {PATIENCE}  I plan to finish my masters this spring. {patience} I have one more class and my ARP to complete.  Oh, and there is this big test that 4th gra...

Speed Dating or 2nd Grade Letter Writing

Well friends, I understand the confusion.  I've never been apart of speed dating but I imagine it just like the letters of these 2nd grade students.  (sorry for the bad pics...that's kinda how I roll) Ya'll these crack me up. I picture these being read without coming up for breath until you get to the last line -which is the same pic ture I get in my head of someone speed dating. Thank you Mrs. Beasley for being our pen pals.  The kids LOVED doing this and guess what?  They want to write ag ai n....this is AUTHENTIC learning!  Okay, we can write some more if that's what ya'll want to do. ;-)  One of the books that I read to the clas s before we started writing our friendly letter was Dear Mr. Blueberry . The kids loved it and I thought it was a perfect way to start our friendly letter unit .  Our first letter was to our lunch ladies politely asking for a new it em on the lunch menu. Next , we were able to set something up wi...

Day 7 Disneyland in a Day

Okay moms, let’s talk about Disney.   I’m going to be real honest with you.   The notebooks you create and the maps you print out, the discounts and packages and clubs and bracelets and t-shirts and rewards make me sweat.   I seriously get overwhelmed and want nothing to do with this place OR maybe I’m just jealous that you’ve figured out the ins and outs of Disney.   I’m simple.   I like simple and we just kept it really simple.   Our plan was to spend ONE day in Disneyland on a tight budget and have the most magical time ever.    We woke up a 4:30 a.m.—we were a little excited and needed about an hour drive time to get through LA traffic. We made it to the gates before they opened and just stood there to take in the excitement of just being at the most magical place earth.   I looked at all the moms with strollers adorned with shoe caddies that held every family member’s drinks for the day.   The basket...
