So many CHANGES...

Well, why not change the blog too. Plus, it's summertime and it seems to be my favorite time to change the blog name. Actually, I'm going back to 2nd grade but just not at the same school that I've been at for the past 13 years. That's a HUGE change but wait......there's more, the hubs is going to be a teacher. Wha?! Yea police officer to teacher.
Ya'll that is his new classroom.  Seriously....what an insane entrance and he won't have to decorate his bulletin boards.  Can you imagine being a kid and going into a classroom that looks like this? How fun?!

I'm not done.....we are moving house. We put our house on the market 2 weeks ago and the very first showing it was sold. Yes, sold. We are patiently waiting to close on our new home. Which is barely pictured below...
The waiting is hard because I just want to get my stuff in there.

There's more....the man child has left for college.  He is currently going through what Air Force calls "The Beast" and we are unable to talk with him for another 2 weeks. This momma is missing her boy.

Go USAFA!!

Ummm.....is it time for a mid-life crisis?!?!
No, I believe it's a growing experience in faith. I'm excited about the changes, a little nervous but excited. I believe with all my heart that we are right where God wants to use us and that is exactly where I want to be.

I have enjoyed my summertime with this sweet girl. She makes me laugh and makes me take selfies with her.  This is what it looks like when the camera is stuck in selfie mode.

Okay, well that was a little catch up with all my personal changes. I can't wait to share my classroom changes.

What'cha Reading?!

We just cannot get enough of the book Pictures of Hollis Woods !  Have you read it?  It's been a fantastic book that has generated so many thoughtful and meaningful conversations within my classroom.   Is it bad that I secretly LOVE it when the kids beg me to read....ONE....MORE...CHAPTER...PUHLEEEAAZZE?!   I t makes my teacher heart happy, happy, happy.  We spent some time writing letters to Hollis giving her helpful advice. I have the most thoughtful and kindest kids! We've looked for similarities and differences between Hollis and a close friend of ours. Wow, I learned a lot about their friends! Student partners had jobs that I assigned from my Literature Circle group packet from the fabulous 4th Grade Frolics .  They completed and shared their questions, connections, and favorite parts with the class to create their own discussions. I LOVE this packet! It has been a fantastic unit to use with my literature circles so I just change...

Day 7 Disneyland in a Day

Okay moms, let’s talk about Disney.   I’m going to be real honest with you.   The notebooks you create and the maps you print out, the discounts and packages and clubs and bracelets and t-shirts and rewards make me sweat.   I seriously get overwhelmed and want nothing to do with this place OR maybe I’m just jealous that you’ve figured out the ins and outs of Disney.   I’m simple.   I like simple and we just kept it really simple.   Our plan was to spend ONE day in Disneyland on a tight budget and have the most magical time ever.    We woke up a 4:30 a.m.—we were a little excited and needed about an hour drive time to get through LA traffic. We made it to the gates before they opened and just stood there to take in the excitement of just being at the most magical place earth.   I looked at all the moms with strollers adorned with shoe caddies that held every family member’s drinks for the day.   The basket...

Speed Dating or 2nd Grade Letter Writing

Well friends, I understand the confusion.  I've never been apart of speed dating but I imagine it just like the letters of these 2nd grade students.  (sorry for the bad pics...that's kinda how I roll) Ya'll these crack me up. I picture these being read without coming up for breath until you get to the last line -which is the same pic ture I get in my head of someone speed dating. Thank you Mrs. Beasley for being our pen pals.  The kids LOVED doing this and guess what?  They want to write ag ai n....this is AUTHENTIC learning!  Okay, we can write some more if that's what ya'll want to do. ;-)  One of the books that I read to the clas s before we started writing our friendly letter was Dear Mr. Blueberry . The kids loved it and I thought it was a perfect way to start our friendly letter unit .  Our first letter was to our lunch ladies politely asking for a new it em on the lunch menu. Next , we were able to set something up wi...
