First Linky!!! Monday Made It.....

Well, this is my. very. first. linky. linkup. (GASP!)  It took my friend Michelle to explain this to me.  really?! .......I was just kinda afraid I'd mess something up. BUT now that I've explained that this is my first time, I'm sure y'all will be forgiving.  right?  Obviously, I have been busy crafting but nothing for my classroom (soon....very soon, I will) so I thought, what a perfect linky to begin with.  I'm linking up with Tara at 4th Grade Frolic

This little craft is bitter sweet.  My lil' sass and I transformed her Disney Princess toy box
(once again, i feel the need to explain our floor renovations....please excuse our mess)
into a big girl storage chest.
A friend bought me some contact paper from TJ Max and that is what I used to cover the lid.  She LOVES it!

Okay in other news, our swimming pool motor blew up (smoke and all) on the very first Saturday we were out of school.  Geeezz!!--and it took a WHOLE week for the new motor to come in.  Needless to say our pool looked like a green, slimy moat.  It was scary!!  I'm pretty in impressed with my hubby, once the new motor came in, he quickly fixed it and after several days of scrubbing, shocking, and algaecide, I'm happy to report we are swimming.
I'm now on summer schedule and if I don't publish this and get into bed, the linky party will be over.
Good night y'all!!

  6. Thanks girls!!

@ Miss Nelson-ha! I knew I would forget something. Silly me, I posted how to make something without telling you how I made it.......geez! Yes, I painted it with crafters paint. I worked great-I didn't need to sand, just paint and contact paper.

@Michelle-the plan for the contact paper was to do the backs of my bookcases in the classroom........but it was just sitting there and the bookcases are in my classroom. Yea, I'm probably not going to have any left by the time I get back to school. :P

  9. Hi Shannon! I found your blog through Michelle at Smitten With First when she mentioned on her blog how you described Colorado best. So I was curious if you live in Colorado or are just a fan? I live in Colorado and I'm constantly on the look out for other CO bloggers to connect with and I've only found one so far. Either way, I'm happy to have found your blog! Welcome to blog world, it's fun place to be :)

  10. @ Katie-ha! you seriously put a smile on my face!! Thanks!

@Stephanie-No, we live in Texas BUT we did buy some land in CO. It is gorgeous there. I feel like when I'm there I walk around with my mouth open.....in awe. Our land is in FairPlay, I believe the county is South Park. Do you know where that is??

  11. I have heard of it but have not actually been there. I live in Loveland, CO which is considered Northern Colorado, about an hour North of Denver. It really is a beautiful state! I moved here from NY four years ago because it was my husband's home state and I fell in love with it :)

Sight Word Book Freebie

I love to use my word wall in the classroom for lots of activities but I REALLY, REALLY like it when the kids use it as a reference.  (kinda the point, huh) :) - Yea, I know.  This year I have put together a personal book for each kiddo that they will be able to reference and I can quickly use it to assess their sight word recognition.   These sight words specifically follow the Texas Journeys Reading Basal for 2nd grade.  Anyone can use this but I've used the 300 sight words in the order of this series.   Each Friday I will listen to the students read the list of of words to me.  I plan to use a different highlighter for each week to mark a word that the student struggles with and we can spend more one on one time in small group for mastery.   I'm going to place the booklets on rings like you see above and hang from hooks on the back of a cabinet.   My goal this year is to FEEL like I'm on top of things...................rather than slow...
