A Lil' of This and A Lil' of That...

Well, I didn't mean to stay away so long.  I'm starting to feel the pressure of busy schedules and my summer is coming to an end! Boo!  I just came back from Capturing Kids Hearts conference in Saledo.  First, I have to say the place was beautiful!  Gorgeous! -The only thing that was missing was my family. :(
Me and Michelle

Yes, they even had animals out there.  They also had buffalo, an ostrich, and goats.

It was truly an amazing conference and I am so thankful that I was picked to be apart of that experience.  The conference was very similar to the Love and Logic philosophy and empowering kids.

"If you have a child's heart, you have his head." -Flip Flippen

I feel like, for the most part, I implement this philosophy in my classroom, but there are LOTS of things that can be changed and fixed. (always)  The presenter really made this philosophy relevant with our peers. WOW!! - That was a big eye opener!  Our presenter (who was AWESOME) said, "Giving affirmation is a leadership skill".

"A leader is someone who sets aside a personal agenda and embraces a greater agenda of serving others." -Flip Flippen

I have LOTS and LOTS of goals and things I want to do within my classroom BUT I now have a goal to make my team a priority.  I want to make sure that we are lifting each other up and affirming each other because as you know...........it can get a little crazy hectic at school.  I want to decorate a cabinet in our workroom for each one of my team members and have a way to leave each other affirmation notes, ecards (love these things), or treats.  I have framed some quotes to place around the workroom.

Pics of workroom coming soon! (once I can get in the school ;)  I would love to hear what you do with your team members to help build a stronger team.

Next, on my list of things that I want to share are my author's chairs.  Just some cheap Dollar General chairs and a little paint.
Now, we have a special seat to share our writing!!

And finally.......a little bit of school shopping.  No outfit is complete without the perfect bow.

No, seriously it's not a bird it's a bow.  haha (no, we didn't buy it-but we had a good laugh:)

Have a Terrific Tuesday, friends!!

Don't forget to leave me your thoughts and ideas of building up your teammates.

  1. I'm thinkin' I may need that bow!! I love your author's chairs! This year, I will be implementing a Social Contract with my team. Maybe have it hanging on our door or bulletin board. I want to have a cute little basket with sticky notes and fun pens for affirmation notes. Target has some little buckets that I thought would be cute hanging up to put our affirmation notes in that we give each other. I need about one more month to get all my school stuff made and ready!! Yikes! One more day and it's August :(

  2. We've done decorated envelopes so the notes are private. It's always fun when you get an affirmation from someone not on your team! Loved CKH

  3. I like the quote "If you have a child's heart, you have his head." -Flip Flippen and I hope that this year I'll capture my student's hearts and that their minds will follow.

Behavior that Makes Cents!

I've decided for this next school year to implement $$ into my behavior clip chart.  Our school has certain colors and points that they want us to use and deduct from each child's conduct grade based on the child's color/conduct clip.  So each year I jazz up my color chart BUT this year I'm implementing Coins.......get it???!!!  Behavior that Makes Cents!!  Okay.......this is how it will work in my classroom.  Each day the students will stamp their behavior calendar with a coin stamp based on our color chart.  For example, black will be used for a quarter because black is considered exceptional behavior throughout the day. They will use a green stamp for dimes, yellow stamp for nickels, and a red stamp for a penny.  Although, I rarely have color changes, I truly feel like this will motivate them to not only KNOW their coins but be able to add them up.  They will NEED to know how much they have in order to spend their money on Friday.   ...

I Monday MADE IT!!

Hi Sweet and Sassy Friends!!  I have some fun pictures of some things that I have made just in time for school to start and Monday Made It.  {insert cheering and clapping} Okay, first.......I didn't actually make the bench BUT I did repaint it and get it classroom ready.  That should totally count and the fact that I nearly took out the neighbor's window during the process.  {if your my neighbor reading this--I'm sorry and it's okay} Here is the before: {donated by a dear friend-LOVE her} I need you to picture this:  I'm on my front porch with the lid of the bench resting nicely on the back of the bench (easier for sanding).  I'm using a handy-dandy electric sander.  Super powerful.  I place the sander on the lid and push the button..........OH. MY. WORD. the board shoots across the yard towards the neighbors window. YIKES!!  A little embarressing but no one saw, so I pick it up bring it back and this time I hang on to it....

All Things Techy...and FREE

Well ya'll, I have so many wonderful things going on in the classroom and it's all things techy.  I cannot wait to share a few of them with you.   If you haven't stopped by our class blog then you should.     { Mrs. Kirby's Kid's Blog } These authentic pieces of writing just make me so stinkin' happy.  I constantly check my email throughout the weekend to see if they have written anything.  Not because I told them to but because they want to. (insert happy teacher dance right here)  I took my very first student bloggers to the school board and they told our school board what a blog is and why they think it's important.  I gave each one of the kids that presented a small journal, sticky notes and pens to write their ideas about things they'd like to blog about.  This is what their journals look like 2 days later.... These kids cannot get enough!!  Look at all their THOUGHTS... BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!   Look at...
