TO DO list

Now that July is here I'm really focusing on trying to mark things off my classroom TO DO LIST and if I can share this on Tara's Monday Made It and help another teacher then I feel SUCCESSFUL.

The 1st thing I had on my list was my WORD WORK STATION. I bought a 10 drawer caddy (from another teacher-SCORE!) that will become the new word work station. Pictures will come later as I get my room together...

I created some new activities and labels for this station that you can get {here}.

I don't like making copies AND it's kind of a HUGE deal at my school so most of the activities can be written in their WORD WORK JOURNAL or the activity does not require paper copies.

The WORD WORK journal will contain a small baggie stapled to the back of each composition journal. This baggie will hold their weekly words. We use Words Their Way so each child will have different words based on their needs.

The daily schedule will be glued to the inside front cover of their composition journal and will give them a quick reminder of what they will do with their words each day before working in a word work station.  Everyone completes theseThis is also a great visual for a sub. (if you ever have to be out;-)
These activities are completed daily. This will allow me to work with individual spelling groups.

This is where I'll store my word work station.
I will use the following labels for each drawer.

  My stations will require:

a set of alphabet stamps
play-doh
stencils
dice
highlighters
markers
small box with salt or sand
activity templates from Word Work Pack

I hope this helps you or makes things a little easier in you room.

Be Blessed,

Reading Power Towers

When I should be getting ready for meet the teacher night and the first week of school I'm finishing up a fun little reading game.  Ha!! It's what I do.......get sidetracked.  I found this idea on Teacher Tipster , and it is so simple but a GREAT way to practice reading sight words.   I absolutely LOVE games in the classroom.....and so do the kids.  They don't even realize how much they're learning because they are so engrossed in the games.  It's greatness!!   All you need is a Pringles can and Dixie Cups.  I bought Dixie cups from Costco because I wanted to make each one of my teamies this activity.   Next I covered the Pringles can with a cover .  (I made 5 different ones, please feel free to copy any or all if you want) Because these are the taller cans I covered them with construction paper first, then with the cover.  (we got a little crazy with crafting this summer and my lil' sass got ahold of 2 of the lids and...

Famous Americans Project

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE when the kids complete a project and they are SO proud to share it with the class.  This was a project that was sent home and the kids were expected to do on their own time with their parents (help)........now as a parent I understand a little of the dread of an at-home project BUT that's because we are looking at it ALL wrong.   What an awesome and precious time that you get to spend with your child learning new things??....talking??....asking questions??  Your are making treasured memories!!--and if you could only see your child's face when they bring their project to school!!  They are beaming with pride AND CANNOT WAIT to share all their new knowledge with their classmates.   The kids get to picked from a list of 50 or so people and then I sent home a list of different ways to present their information to the class. Pizza Box (Abigail Adams) Hanger (George Washington) Power Point (Jackie Robinson...

LOTS of {FREEBIES} on this FRIDAY

Hi Sweet Friends!  My big baby is turning 16 this weekend, so I'm here to give little gifts to celebrate.  Yay!!  You know that I'm going to share a few pics of him before you get your {freebies}. Okay, it's time for {freebies} or I'm going to cry.   { Freebie #1 } This is a center activity that integrates reading and math.  I've included 60 of the first sight words that are introduced in Texas Journey's basal.  The students will be reading these words and writing addition sentences to match.  They are also on the lookout for DOUBLES, because in this game DOUBLES are worth more.  You can pick this up at my TPT store. { FREEBIE #2 ) This is a math center activity to help the kids recognize the addend to create the double addition sentence.  They must be the first to fill their backpack with each school supply (addend). I've also included blank game boards and supply cards.  This gives the kids the oppo...
